Important Notes

Alaska is unique: no mandatory statewide residential building code (IRC). The State Fire Marshal enforces commercial codes (IBC/IFC/IMC/IFGC) statewide. Local "Deferred Jurisdictions" can adopt additional codes including IRC and IECC. Many rural and unincorporated areas have NO building code enforcement. Extreme climate considerations: permafrost, seismic (Ring of Fire), extreme cold (Zone 7-8), heavy snow loads, tsunami zones, volcanic hazards. AHFC uses 2018 IRC/IECC for its financing programs.
