Important Notes

Connecticut is unique in that counties have no governmental authority since 1960. Each of the 169 municipalities (towns/cities) is the fundamental unit of local government and handles its own building permits. The state code is uniform across all municipalities, but permit processes, fees, and local procedures vary. A 2026 CSBC based on 2024 ICC codes is currently being adopted.
