Important Notes

Indiana's commercial building code is based on the 2012 IBC (one of the oldest ICC adoptions in the country). The 2020 Indiana Residential Code (based on 2018 IRC) is more current. Indiana is in the heart of Tornado Alley with significant tornado activity, especially in central and southern regions. The Wabash Valley Seismic Zone affects southwestern Indiana (SDC B-C). Northwestern Indiana (Gary/Hammond) is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Indiana has 92 counties. The FPBSC under the Indiana Department of Homeland Security oversees building codes statewide.
