Important Notes

Minnesota adopted 2018 ICC codes (effective March 2020). The state is in IECC Climate Zones 6 (south) and 7 (north). Wind Zone 1 with 115-130 mph ultimate design wind speed. Snow loads range 35-80 psf. Low seismic risk (SDC A-B). Minnesota has some of the most stringent energy codes in the nation due to extreme cold climate. The state is currently reviewing 2021 ICC codes for potential adoption. Minnesota has a unique "stretch code" option allowing municipalities to adopt more stringent energy requirements. The Twin Cities metro area has the highest concentration of building activity.
