Important Notes

Oklahoma is in the heart of Tornado Alley — tornadoes are the primary natural hazard. The state has adopted ICC 500 for storm shelter design, particularly for schools and critical facilities. Oklahoma has experienced significant induced seismicity from wastewater injection wells, raising seismic design categories in some areas from A to C/D. The OUBCC enforces a mandatory statewide code (2018 ICC). Wind speeds range from 105-135 mph. Climate Zones 3A (south) and 4A (north). Hail is extremely common — impact-resistant roofing recommended statewide.
