Tennessee adopted 2021 ICC codes effective April 17, 2025 (previously on 2012 codes). Western TN is in the New Madrid Seismic Zone (SDC D) - one of the most seismically active areas east of the Rockies. Middle TN is in "Dixie Alley" tornado corridor. Three Grand Divisions: East (mountains, Zone 5A), Middle (Nashville basin, Zone 4A), West (Mississippi River plain, Zone 4A). State Fire Marshal enforces codes. Local jurisdictions may adopt more restrictive requirements.
